Book Award Announcement
There are moments in writing that feel loud.
And then there are the quieter ones—the ones that land a little more softly, but settle deeper
Recently, However Much or Little received recognition through the Firebird Book Awards.
And I’ve been sitting with that for a bit.
Because if I’m honest, the feeling isn’t just excitement. It’s a mix of pride, disbelief, and a strange kind of stillness that comes after you hit a milestone you’ve been quietly working toward.
Writing can be like that.
You spend months (or years) building something in the background. Scene by scene. Chapter by chapter. Hoping it connects with someone, somewhere.
And then one day, it does—just in a way you didn’t necessarily expect.
What this recognition means to me isn’t just the award itself.
It’s the reminder that the stories we pour ourselves into matter.
Even when they’re still finding their way to readers.
Even when growth feels slower than we’d like.
Even when it feels like we’re building something quietly, without a lot of noise around it.
So I’m taking this as both a moment to pause… and a moment to keep going.
Over the next little while, I’ll be sharing a few things:
a short audio feature with Firebird Radio
a guest blog post on writing and world-building
and, of course, more stories from Ashby Lake
If you haven’t visited yet, Ashby Lake is a place built on connection—messy, layered, sometimes complicated, and always rooted in the people who call it home.
And I’m really glad you’re here for it.
